Five home games, the 2008 Dayton Flyer Classic, tournaments at Texas and Ohio State and three contests against in-state rivals highlight the 2008-2009 Flyer women's basketball non-conference schedule released on Wednesday.

Dayton's non-conference schedule consists of 17 games overall, including match-ups against several nationally-renowned programs, which head coach Jim Jabir believes, will benefit his team.

"I believe this year's non-conference schedule is the toughest we've had since we've been at UD, and it will help ready our new team for the always challenging Atlantic 10 season," Jabir said.

The Flyers will open the season with a home exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 6 at UD Arena against the Ohio Legends.

Regular season play will begin on Saturday, Nov. 15 in Austin, Texas at the World Vision Classic. UD will open against the homestanding Texas Longhorns of the Big XII Conference before taking on St. Mary's and Old Dominion.

Following a pair of road games, the Flyers will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Nov. 29 for a two-day tournament, where the team could potentially be matched up against the nationally-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.

Road games at Cincinnati of the Big East Conference and Penn State of the Big Ten are also on the slate before Dayton opens its regular season home schedule on Dec. 10 when the Miami RedHawks visit UD Arena.

Wright State is also scheduled prior to the 2008 Dayton Flyer Classic, which begins on Sunday, Dec. 28. Visiting schools include Bowling Green, Gardner-Webb, and Lipscomb - Dayton's first opponent. The championship game will be played on Dec. 29.

A home game against Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Jan. 4 will wrap up the Flyers' non-conference schedule before UD opens up A-10 play.

The 2007-2008 Flyers made the third-largest improvement in the nation and finished with a modern school-record 25 victories to earn a berth in the WNIT. Dayton tied for fourth in the Atlantic 10 standings and advanced to the A-10 Semifinals for only the second time ever under the direction of 2007-08 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year Jim Jabir. UD earned its first-ever votes in the AP Top 25 Poll and won 16 consecutive games at one point, which was the longest winning streak in school history.

Dayton's complete schedule will be released at a later date.
