            <title>Local Football Coach Suspended Over Alleged Attack On Student</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">DAYTON, Ohio -- A local high school teacher and football coach has been suspended for five days without pay as of today, July 2, over an incident in May where he allegedly had a physical confrontation with a student.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">Dunbar High School teacher James Lacking is accused of shoving a student for the second time in three months.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font size="2"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">The district issued the suspension with a letter addressing an alleged incident on May 22 between Lacking and a 15-year-old student.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span></font></font></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">The teen said Lacking threw him against a white board, shoved him, and tried to provoke him into striking the teacher.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Witnesses said Lacking yelled and shoved the boy. </font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">Lacking, who has been employed with the school since 1997, was reprimanded in March for an incident in which he shoved a student for being disrespectful.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">School officials will hold a hearing Monday, June 4, where Lacking said his fate in the Dayton Public School district will likely be decided. </font></p>

            <title>Two Injured After Mustang And Dump Truck Collide</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">DAYTON, Ohio -- A woman spent nearly half an hour stuck inside her vehicle after a collision with a dump truck.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">Police and medics were first called to Shroyer and Patterson roads at 3:43 p.m. today, July 2.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>The driver of a Mustang was taken to Miami Valley Hospital after crews removed her -- a passenger was also hospitalized.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">The driver of the dump truck was not injured.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">The conditions of the injured parties is unknown and police are still investigating the cause of the crash.</font></p>]]></description>

            <title>Elderly Woman Died After Mistaking Heat For AC</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">CINCINNATI, Ohio -- An elderly Cincinnati woman died because of extreme heat last week after she turned on her heat instead of her air conditioning, according to the Hamilton County Coroner.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">Fannie Shockley, 84, apparently misread her thermostat last Tuesday, June 23, and turned on the furnace while temperatures were as high as 87 degrees Fahrenheit outside.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">The coroner said the incident was the first heat-related death in the city this year.</font></p>

            <title>Tea Party Rally For Smaller Government Being Held Friday</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">BROOKVILLE, Ohio -- After the massive turnout for the Dayton Tea Party in April, the organizers are holding a similar event in Brookville on Friday, July 3.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">The rally is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Golden Gate Park in Brookville located at 750 Arlington Road. </font></p>

Jarrod Martin, R-Beavercreek and University of Dayton History Professor Larry Schweikart.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>The event will end with a fireworks display.</font></p>

            <title>City Rejects Recommendation On Raises For Police</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">DAYTON, Ohio -- The wage dispute between city commissioners and the Dayton's police union will go on after recommendations from an independent fact-finder were turned down.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font size="2"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">The recommendation was to provide Dayton police a 1 percent wage increase and no mandatory unpaid leave -- officials with the Fraternal Order of Police said they were willing to accept those terms.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span></font></font></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">Dayton, which announced last month it was facing a mid-year deficit of $4 million, has asked all city employees to forego their 3 percent raises and take four days of unpaid leave to help make up the difference.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>The police and firefighter unions have both rejected those terms so far.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">City Manager Rashad Young said the issue will be put to another third-party arbitrator and he will go along with whatever is decided.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Young also said the same method will likely be used for the fire union.</font></p>]]></description>

            <title>Man Learns Fate After Being Convicted In Gas Station Killing</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">DAYTON, Ohio -- A man learned his sentence today, July 2, after he was convicted last month of murder in the killing of 20-year-old David Driscoll in a gas station parking lot in February.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font size="2"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">Kyle McClendon, 23, will serve 27 and a half years to life in prison in the Feb. 8 incident at the Marathon gas station on Riverside Drive.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span></font></font></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">McClendon's attorneys admitted in the trial that he shot Driscoll, but argued that Driscoll was the aggressor in the slaying.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Judge Dennis Langer dismissed that defense, saying McClendon was clearly the aggressor.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">Surveillance footage of the killing appears to show Driscoll and McClendon getting ready to fight, but the two instead shake hands and hug.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Driscoll then started walking towards McClendon's&nbsp;car, and the McClendon shot him.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">Two friends of Driscoll testified that the disagreement had started when McClendon bumped into one of them, and Driscoll said something to him.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">At the time of the shooting, McClendon had just been granted probation in lieu of a conviction for carrying a loaded concealed weapon only about a month before the shooting.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>His sentence included 18 months for possessing a weapon under probation.</font></p>]]></description>

            <title>Man Helps Out Elderly Woman, Then Steals Her Purse</title>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font size="2"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">It happened Monday, June 29, at the Kroger grocery store at 2728 East Main Street.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span></font></font></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">Deputies say a man approached the elderly woman and asked for help finding his vehicle.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>He helped her with her groceries before grabbing her purse and fleeing, according to the police report.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">The man is described as a thin male in his early 20s, around 6'3" with brown hair.</font></p>

            <title>Preble County Sheriff: Budget Cuts Will Cost Residents Their Safety</title>

            <title>Local Man Dies Of Swine Flu</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold"><font size="2"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">HAMILTON, Ohio -- Ohio's first confirmed death from the H1N1 virus is in Butler County, according to information from the Ohio Department of Health.<o:p></o:p></font></font></font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold"><font size="2"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">The ODH has now confirmed that a 46-year-old Hamilton man died Monday, June 29.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>Like most of the confirmed fatalities from the virus, the man did have underlying health issues that may have contributed to his death.</font></font></font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold"><font face="Tahoma" color="#000000" size="2">Greene County also confirmed its first case of the virus today, July 2, in a 12-year-old girl.&nbsp; Sarah Pappa with the Greene County Combined Health District said she has been at home and is recovering -- it's not believed there are any other potential cases in the county.</font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold"><font size="2"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">According to the World Health Organization, as of July 1 there have been 332 deaths from the H1N1 virus worldwide, 127 of which have been in the United States.</font></font></font></span></p>

            <title>Chemical Disaster Averted At Moraine Train Yard</title>

            <title>Family Of Three Escapes Overnight Fire</title>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt">TROTWOOD, Ohio -- A family of three escaped a fire that badly damaged a home early this morning, July 2.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt">It happened just before 3 a.m. at a home in the 4200 block of Freudenberger Avenue, not far from North Gettysburg Avenue.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>A woman and two small children were in the home, but managed to get out safely.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt">Firefighters were able to get the flames under control relatively quickly, but the home was damaged too badly for the family to return, according to dispatchers. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt">The American Red Cross is assisting the family.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">Jerry Welch, 64, and Charmion Burton, 35, were arrested after more than a dozen animals were found clinging to life in their filthy Terry Street home.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>The conditions were discovered after Montgomery County Children Services sent someone to check on the couple's young son.<o:p></o:p></font></font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">Police said the house was filled with garbage and animal feces.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>The two were arrested at Eastwood Metropark on Harshman Road -- officers said their minivan was similarly piled with garbage and filth.<o:p></o:p></font></font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">Four dogs and 12 cats, one of which was dead, were removed from the house.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp; </span>One of the dogs was in such bad shape it had to be euthanized, said officials with Montgomery County's Animal Resource Center.<o:p></o:p></font></font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">Welch and Burton were previously convicted with felony animal cruelty after police found a dog belonging to the couple partially frozen to the ground in December 2005. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes">&nbsp;</span>The pair was barred from owning pets for four years after that case.<o:p></o:p></font></font></span></p>

            <title>New Labs Bringing 100 Jobs To Wright-Pat</title>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">Officials at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base broke ground Wednesday on the $36 million project that will add offices, laboratories, and a testing range to the Air Force Research Laboratory. It will be ready in 2011.<o:p></o:p></font></font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">The project will make room for about 100 research jobs from Rome, N.Y., and Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts.<o:p></o:p></font></font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt"><font color="#000000"><font face="Tahoma">The project is part of $332 million in ongoing construction that will allow Wright-Patterson to absorb almost 1,200 jobs in sensors research, aerospace medicine, and other programs.
