DAYTON, Ohio - Details have been released regarding the specific role that Dayton will play in the creation of a high speed rail line between Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland, commonly called the "3-C Corridor."

According to the "Quick Start" plan developed by the state, federal stimulus money will be used to begin work on the 260-mile rail line. Two stops are planned for the Dayton area along the line - one in downtown Dayton and a second in Riverside.

A $5.7 million station will be built at the intersection of Sixth and Ludlow Streets and will include a new waiting and ticketing area underneath the tracks and a covered pedestrian walkway and drop-off zone along Sixth Street. Officials say the station will also have a clock tower or other similar marker to prominently signify the location.

A $500,000 terminal and platform will be built in Riverside, directly across from the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Riverside officials say they could draw up to $50 million from the new stop.

Fares are expected to be approximately $7.00 for a one-way ticket to Cincinnati and $10.50 for a one-way ticket to Columbus. Trains will reach speeds of up to 80 miles per hour and would complete the entire route in four to six hours, depending on the stops.

Come On! Are U kidding me.....what ballot was this on?
  • good thing
personally, i can't wait to ride. I believe it would be a perk for dayton's business.
  • high speed rail
I'm more interested in a stairway to Heaven. By the time this gets built, I'll be deceased anyway.
  • a waste
who is going to ride the rails, i am not.
its just about the government controlling us preventing us from free travel.
  • High COST Rail
High-speed rail should be called high COST rail. I have voiced my opinion with the Governor's office (614-466-3555) and Senator Brown's offices (614-469-2083, 513-684-1021, 888-896-6446, 202-224-2315).

Buses are a cheaper and more flexible choice. Rail lines are not as adaptable--you can't exactly easily move tracks to follow movements in population centers. We are more spread out these days; people moving from urban centers in the suburbs.

Here's a video segment on the failure of the high speed rail promise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwXA5wv0zwI.

"The interstate highways are 10 times more cost-effective at moving people than high-speed rail."

    Cost per passenger mile:
    Interstate highways: 3.2 cents
    Moderate-speed rail: 27.3 cents
    California high-speed rail: 32.6 cents
