Bellbrook to revisit law preventing more than two pets in a home
BELLBROOK, Ohio - Residents of Bellbrook could soon be allowed to have more animals indoors, according to some members of the city's planning board.
The board agreed Wednesday at their meeting to review the city's restriction on pets inside a home. Currently, residents in Bellbrook are not allowed to have more than two cats or dogs as pets.
According to city zoning ordinances, three or more pets at once would result in classifying any house in a residential area as a "kennel," which must then be licensed and approved. The policy was instituted in 1986 to help avoid puppy mills and people breeding cats and dogs for their own personal use.
A number of other area towns have restrictions on the number of pets allowed at one time, including Centerville, Kettering, and Springboro. Most municipalities set the limit at four or five, as opposed to two.
Bellbrook City Manager Mark Schlagheck said the planning board will soon set a date for a public hearing on whether to increase the number of cats or dogs allowed from two to three.
What others are saying
- 2 pet limitI can certainly understand concern over "puppy mills", etc. However, violating basic rights of individuals to achieve a "means to an end", smacks of Socialism, Pelosi-ism and Obama pretzel logic! Nancy "hard-head" Pelosi, recently vowed to "hop the Fence", Parachute into the yard or do whatever it takes to pass health care!
Just pray she stays out of Bellbrook! - Bellbrook indoor pet limitsWhat a nutty law - I had no idea such a thing existed! Thank goodness we passed on the house we were looking at in Bellbrook. Too much government, people!!!
