Report: Workers may have been living at track at time of fire
LEBANON, Ohio - Investigators say they believe a space heater might be the cause of a Saturday morning fire that claimed the lives of two people and 43 horses at the Lebanon Raceway.
The fire broke out in building 16 between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m., according to reports. A passerby noticed smoke and fire coming from the structure and called 911.
When firefighters arrived, the football-length barn was fully engulfed in flames and the roof had collapsed.
Officials from the State Fire Marshall's Office are expected to speak about the incident Monday afternoon. Workers at the raceway said the two victims were also workers at the track and may have been living in the barn.
