State AG files local suit against New York mortgage company
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray has filed a lawsuit against a New York-based mortgage servicing company that he claims has been duping its Ohio customers.
Cordray filed suit Wednesday against Barclays Capital Real Estate, whose Ohio business goes by HomEq Servicing, in an ongoing crackdown on foreclosure rescue companies.
The action, filed in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court, accuses Barclays of peddling one-sided agreements and providing inadequate customer service.
It's the seventh such lawsuit the attorney general has filed since January.
Cordray says firms must adhere to the terms of a federal mortgage modification program aimed at helping people stay in their homes.
The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
