Tougher times ahead for City of Dayton budget and employees
DAYTON, Ohio - Dayton City Manager Tim Riordan says that he has never seen a more difficult budget. Riordan presents his 2010 budget to City Commission and Mayor-Elect Gary Leitzell.
City coffers expect to collect $152.8 million next year. That is $17 million less than Dayton leaders planned to spend.
· The budget eliminates 142 positions. That includes 66 filled, 46 vacant slots and 35 police-fire dispatchers.
· Dayton Police would go from 418 sworn officers to 366 by December, 2010
· Dayton Fire Department would staff one engine and truck only 67 per cent of the time.
· Burkhardt and Stewart Patterson Parks would close January First.
· Festival and special events funding would be cut.
· Bulk waste pick-up would go monthly.
· Street crews would be reduced by 50 per cent.
· Waste collection fees would rise from $91.36 to $113.29 per year.
· City workers will be asked to take additional furlough days in 2010.
