Springfield doctor killed when plane crashes into field
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- A Springfield doctor is killed in a plane crash Saturday night.
Wilhelm Kalweit, 56, died when his plane crashed in a field southeast of the village of Mt. Victory in Hardin County.
The cardiologist had reportedly been on his way home from Canada
The crash is being investigated but the plane has just had some work done on it, according to Kalweit's wife, Suzanne.
Kalweit was born in Germany, and his family moved to New York when he was 3 years old, his wife said.
A fellowship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton brought the couple to the area more than 20 years ago, and Kalweit decided to open his own practice in Springfield, which is where he saw a need for his expertise.
Kalweit is survived by his wife, their 12-year-old son and extended family on the east coast.
