One teen dead, another injured after two-car crash in Miami County
COVINGTON, Ohio - Police say one person was killed and two others were injured after a crash in Miami County on Sunday afternoon.
16-year-old Robert Lyle was found dead at the scene when police arrived at the intersection of State Route 48 and Sugar Grove Road. Zachary Baumgardner, 16, and Tammy Newman, 44, were both injured in the crash.
According to police, Newman was traveling southbound on SR-48 in a pickup truck when a car, driven by Lyle, pulled from a stop sign at the intersection and into Newman's path. Newman told deputies she had just left work and was on her way home, and did not have enough time to react to avoid the crash.
Lyle and Baumgardner were both students at Covington High School. Baumgardner was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, where is still listed in critical condition.
Deputies did not have any witnesses to the accident.
Funeral arrangements for Lyle are still pending.
