MERCER COUNTY, Ohio - Police say a SWAT team was called to the home of a military veteran Monday night after receiving a call indicating the man wanted to commit "death by officer."

The SWAT tram responded to the residence, just outside of Rockford, and eventually managed to convince the veteran to surrender without incident. Officers said the suspect had barricaded himself inside the residence and had weapons and ammunition available.

The man was transported to the Dayton Veterans Hospital for treatment. His name has not been released as no charges will be filed.

"Death by officer" is the term used to describe a situation where someone tries to force a police officer to shoot and kill the person.
