DAYTON --(Dayton Daily News) -- A masked gunman robbed the Kwik 'n Kold at 1316 Wyoming Street about 3:45 p.m. Saturday shooting one employee in the back.

The employee fled to get away from the shooter who also fled the scene, said Sgt. Donald Burden, Dayton police. He escaped with an unknown amount of cash.

"We are not sure if anyone else was involved," Burden said.

A citizen reportedly followed the shooter, Burden said, and police surrounded a home at 141 Samuel where they believe the suspect may be holed up inside.

Dayton Police on a loud hailer called to people inside a residence in the 100 block of Samuel Ave. to come out with their hands up. Earlier radio traffic indicated that a dog had been shot, apparently by police at that address.

Later, a suspect was arrested at 140 Drummer, one street over from the Samuel address. Police believe he is the robber and shooter. The money stolen from the drive-thru was found in a nearby car.

Miami Valley Hospital officials confirmed the shooting victim was hospitalized, but did not have a condition. Police characterized the victim's injuries as non-life threatening.

Amanda Phelps, who lives across Wyoming Street from the robbery, said she took her bulldog Batista to visit Sparrow at work earlier in the day. "He's a real nice sociable guy," Phelps said.
