WARREN COUNTY, Ohio -- A forensic engineer says Kings Island had problems with the closed Son of Beast roller coaster from the start.

That video interview from a trial last month said the park knew the ride wasn't right when it opened in 2000 but tried to fix it with new supporting structures. Engineer Rick Schmizze says the Band-Aid approach did not work.

Kings Island lost a jury trial brought by a woman who said she'd been injured on the ride then settled on punitive damages after admitting liability.

Kings Island's owners were "negligent" and "put passengers at risk" on the Son of Beast roller coaster, according to the engineer who inspected the ride..

The ride was shut down several times after it opened.
