PIQUA, Ohio - There's a new fire chief in one of Miami County's biggest towns.

The city of Piqua announced Tuesday that Michael Rindler will become the town's new fire chief. Chief Rindler has been with the department since June of 1989 - he was promoted to captain in 1998 and to assistant fire chief in 2000.

The fire chief is selected from current members of the fire department. The city chooses two candidates to participate in a highly competitive exam process, which includes both a written test and an assessment exam.

Chief Rindler will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the department, including managing all other employees. He is also responsible for coordinating fire prevention efforts within the community and supervising EMS and emergency management services.

Rindler is a graduate of Edison Community College with an associate of science degree in criminal justice.
