Adoption fees for cats lowered after dramatic increase in stray population
CLARK COUNTY, Ohio - As winter weather approaches, officials with Clark County are making an extra effort to find homes for a large number of cats in the area.
The Clark County Humane Society has lowered the adoption rate for cats to only $25 for at least the remainder of October. The Humane Society typically adopts cats for a fee of $65.
Officials say they have seen a huge jump in the stray cat population, especially in and immediately around Springfield. Some people have complained that there has been such a large increase that they simply cannot go anywhere without coming across a stray.
The organization says they are working towards creating a more long-term solution, but for now, they hope lower adoption fee will encourage more pet owners to bring home a new cat and help keep the stray population to a minimum.
