UPDATE: Driver Critical After Hitting State Highway Patrol Car
DAYTON, Ohio - The 76- year-old driver that hit a State Highway Patrol cruiser on Thursday night is in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital.
David Catlett struck Officer Kyle Pohlabel's cruiser at high speed while the patrolman was stopped at a construction zone on I-75.
State Patrol supervisors said the trooper was in the far left lane with his overhead warning lights on and flashing, blocking off a lane as construction workers did overnight paving work.
Pohlabel has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
Details as to what caused the crash are still under investigation, but troopers think Catlett may have suffered a medical condition prior to the crash.
