ALERT: Police Pull Truck, Body From Great Miami River After Morning Crash
WEST CARROLLTON, Ohio - Divers and a tow truck have pulled a pickup truck out of the Great Miami River, with the body of a missing man inside.
Police said the man, who remains unidentified, went missing after a pick-up truck carrying three men rolled into the river early Wednesday morning. He is believed to be a local resident in his late teens.
The driver apparently missed a curve on Soldiers Home-West Carrollton Road in West Carrollton at about 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The truck apparently went off the right side of the road, the driver overcorrected and then the vehicle went off the left side of the road and into the river.
A woman, who declined to give her name, identified herself as the mother of one of the men in the truck. She said both her son, who is 23-years-old, and the truck's driver, who is 30, got out and made it to the surface. They tried to go back for their friend who is 19 but the water was too deep and they couldn't reach him.
The woman said her son suffered a blow to the head and a bruised tailbone. The driver had a cracked rib and abrasions and he remains at Miami Valley Hospital this morning. She said the three men have been friends for years and they all live in West Carrollton
The truck was submerged in about 18 feet of water and divers called in from Hamilton County had to wait until it got lighter outside before going into the water to search for the man.
Police think speed played a factor in the driver losing control of the pickup.
