King's Island Removes Display of Dead Celebrities from Halloween Event
MASON, Ohio - The area's biggest amusement park says the will not show a controversial display.
King's Island is preparing for their annual "Halloween Haunt," and they had planned to use a display that included skeletons dressed up to depict famous dead celebrities. That display has been removed, however, after a TV report that showed clips of the display was met with public disapproval.
A King's Island spokesman said the amusement park did not mean to offend anyone with the display and apologizes to anyone who was offended.
The display was set to include images of singer Michael Jackson, pitchman Billy Mays, and actress Farrah Fawcett, all of whom passed away this past summer. Wendy's founder Dave Thomas was also part of the display.
The scene also included some dead celebrities in poses specific to their death. Steve McNair, the former quarterback for the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens, was sitting on a couch in a Titans jersey with his girlfriend and suspected killer, Sahel Kazemi, draped across his lap. Entertainer and politician Sonny Bono, who was killed in a skiing accident, was positioned in front of a tree, while Boston Red Sox-great Ted Williams, who was cryogenically frozen after his death, was posed in a glass-door freezer.
What others are saying
- OUTRAGEDOur world is already filled with so much violence- why in the world would you devalue a real person's life and make a mockery of their murder? Imagine if it was your loved one that was murdered and this "theme park" put your family member / friend's murder scene on public display for entertainment purposes!!!! How in the world would you feel? I hope that the families and friends of each murder victim that this park puts on display sues the crap out of Kings Island's park management. I hope the owner's will re-evaluate the positions that are in charge of this event. I am not easily outraged- yet this instance takes the cake!
