Turner Joins Habitat For Humanity Effort Today
DAYTON, Ohio -- Congressman Michael Turner will be joining Dayton Habitat for Humanity's Women Build at 2:00 p.m. today at 4124 Klepinger Rd. in Harrison Township.
In addition to pounding a few nails, Turner will make an announcement regarding affordable housing program funding to benefit the Montgomery County community. As the Chairman of the Congressional House Urban Caucus, Turner has expressed a special interest in affordable housing.
The Women Build house is one of 10 projects in the Dayton area providing low-income families with safe, decent, energy-efficient homes in 2009, with the help of a $100,000 Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Program grant awarded to Dayton Firefighters Credit Union to benefit Dayton Habitat.
Also in attendance for the event will be Senator Fred Strahorn, Federal Home Loan Bank employees, and representatives from the Dayton Firefighters Credit Union, many of whom will be spending the day building a new home for Toye Jackson and her two children.
Dayton Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, interfaith housing ministry that works both to eliminate poverty housing around the world and to make adequate housing a matter of conscience and action. Habitat welcomes to the table partners from any faith - or from no faith - who are willing to pick up a hammer to help improve the lives of families needing decent shelter.
