Third Street Shut Down For Fatal Motorcycle Crash
DAYTON, Ohio -- A man was killed Thursday evening, Aug. 13, when he crashed his motorcycle on West Third Street at Ardmore Avenue.
Earl Grant, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene. Third Street was shut down in both directions for several hours because of the crash.
The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. when the 40-year-old motorcyclist attempted to pass a car at the intersection of Ardmore and Third -- police investigators said he clipped the front bumper of the other vehicle. Witnesses reported the biker was speeding.
The man was thrown from the bike and into an RTA pole -- the bike burst into flames as it slid down the road, according to officers on scene.
The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. Police said the second driver was not at fault and will not be cited.
