Franklin Flower Shop Set for Demolition After Fire
FRANKLIN, Ohio - The historic building in downtown Franklin that was destroyed by fire early Monday morning is set to be torn down.
Two cranes were brought to the scene to take down the building, according to officials from the company hired for the demolition. The project is necessary after the fire damage was deemed to much to overcome in order to save the building built in the 1890's.
The home to Fitzgerald Flowers and Gifts, along with several apartments, went up in flames Monday after an apartment caught fire because of an electrical problem with the television. Everyone was evacuated safely, but owner Dennie Fitzgerald said the structural support was damaged by the heat and the flames.
The building has housed several businesses over the years, including a movie theater and Preedmore's men's clothing store. The third floor was once used as dance hall, according to information from a walking tour of downtown Franklin by Geoff Gorsuch.
