Tea Time, Round 2: Area Holds Holiday Tea Party

BROOKVILLE, Ohio - Residents of the Miami Valley will once again have an opportunity to let the American government know how they feel about the state of the country at the second area tea party, to be held today.

After the massive turnout for the Dayton Tea Party in April, the organizers are holding a similar event in Brookville today, Friday, July 3, in conjunction with a Fourth of July celebration.

The rally is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Golden Gate Park in Brookville located at 750 Arlington Road.

Speakers for the event include Rep. Jarrod Martin, R-Beavercreek and University of Dayton History Professor Larry Schweikart.  The event will end with a fireworks display.

The Tea Party movement originated as a way to protest government spending and the growing size of the federal government. Rallies were held on April 15 across the country, and many areas - like the Miami Valley - have decided to hold a second one as well.

The city estimated a cost of $3,500 to $4,000 to pay for extra police patrols, but the organizers of the event signed an agreement to cover the costs.

What others are saying

  • Dayton Tea Party
I am amazed how some people are missing the point about Tea Parties.
The purpose of these assemblies is not to ridicule Democrats or Republicans. The objective is for all tax paying citizens to work together, regardless of their politics, and resolve some of the critical issues that threaten our nation.
I personally believe we should get rid of the “party” system completely and judge each candidate by the issues they support.
  • Dayton Tea Party
I was there, and ya there probably are some better things to do. However sometimes its better to do whats right, than to do what you want.
  • Tea Party
hmm peoples sons and daughters were killed in Iraq all nordered by Bushy boy , where were these people to protest then Oh yeah money is more important and since it's fueled by racial prejudice who cares about human life. You can not overthrow the President. I hope they enjoy there barbecue and lave theit children out of it this time. Fast forward 10-15 years later when you are trying to get them into a good college and the seditious pictures come up. You have ruined their chances. You fight so hard for your kids to have Social Security money that would put them below the poverty line. Wow! You really are complaining that you want to make sure your child has money to only buy catfood. Why don't you make sure they get a good education with a good pension plan and investments. You are protesting that your kids get the chance to be underachievers!!! YaYYYY You people are INSANE. Poor dear children.
  • Tea party?
Don't these people have anything better to do on a holiday weekend? I do.
