MORAINE, Ohio - After voicing their opinions in objection, residents of Moraine were granted their request.

Residents of Moraine who live in the 45418 ZIP code will retain their postal address, according to City Manager Dave Hicks. The announcement rejects the plan from the United States Postal Service to change that ZIP code to 45417, which would have moved those residents into a Dayton postal address.

Hicks said he believes the public meetings and barrage of letters that resulted from the planned change showed to state and federal representatives, as well as the Postal Service, that the people were unwilling to change their ZIP code. He said it's great news for a region that has suffered tremendously over the past year.

Moraine resident Jim McGuire, who spearheaded the campaign against the change, said 85 percent of the people living in the 45418 ZIP code participated in the fight to retain the code.
