Court Denies Parents Records From Abortion Clinic

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled against the parents of a 14-year-old girl, who were seeking the records of minors treated at a Cincinnati clinic where their daughter had an abortion.

The court ruled Wednesday that the family did not have a right to obtain child abuse reports or medical records on other patients treated at the clinic. The ruling comes after the parents had sued Planned Parenthood and the physician who performed the abortion after the clinic did not notify them or get their consent when the 14-year-old girl asked for an abortion.

The parents say the clinic has a pattern of violating the Ohio parental consent law and failing to report abuse. The clinic says they received consent for the March 2004 abortion from a man at a phone number the girl said was her father's. Court records have indicated that the girl gave her boyfriend's number.
