Man Charged In Construction Zone Hit-And-Run
DAYTON, Ohio - A driver is in custody after striking a construction worker in an active construction zone on I-75 in Dayton Friday morning.
The accident occurred around 4:30 a.m. northbound near the exit for Salem Ave./First St. off of I-75 in downtown. Police said a man was allegedly speeding through the zone when he struck a worker and continued driving.
Officers said another worker called 9-1-1, then jumped into his own personal car to follow the driver. The man followed the driver northbound and was joined by police, who stopped the vehicle and took the man into custody near the Keowee Street exit.
Police say the driver appeared to be intoxicated, and pending test results will be charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OVI) as well as hit-and-run.
The struck worker was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Traffic was almost entirely unaffected by the accident.
