Chemical Disaster Averted At Moraine Train Yard
MORAINE, Ohio -- An overnight train derailment nearly caused a dangerous chemical leak in Moraine.
It happened just before midnight Wednesday, July 1, at the CSX Transportation yard off of State Route 741 near West Dorothy Lane. Workers were moving train cars around to prepare them for transportation when several derailed, puncturing a chemical tanker.
Luckily, the damage was limited to the outer shell of the car -- the inner tank containing the hazardous material was not damaged. The car was carrying acetone cyanohydrin, a highly dangerous compound used in the production of acrylic.
What others are saying
- Train derailmentThis is just simply a piss-poor job of reporting? Do you people even check your facts before you put this stuff up here? First off, There is not a CSX rail yard in Moraine. It is a Norfolk Southern rail yard. Also, the outer shell of the car was NOT punctured, although there was some damage to the car. With this kind of shoddy reporting, how are we supposed to have confidence in the veracity of the articles posted here?
