DAYTON, Ohio - A detective for the Dayton Police Department was taken to the hospital Tuesday after being dragged by a fleeing suspect. Dayton police identified the officer as Det. Jamie Bullens.

Bullens is the head of the police squad charged with apprehending scrap metal thieves. He was conducting a field interview at First Street Recycling Center of a possible theft suspect when he jumped into a white Jeep Liberty.

Bullens was dragged about 30 feet before the suspect crashed the Jeep into a concrete wall. The suspect was still in the Jeep when backup arrived, and the officers took the man into custody.

Injuries suffered by Bullens are not life-threatening.
