SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Clark County deputies are investigating an early-morning smash and grab where several burglars rammed an SUV into a business, but later abandoned their getaway vehicle and its loot.

Deputies got a call around 1:48 a.m. this morning, June 29, about a burglary in progress at Patton's Power Equipment at 2400 Mechanicsburg Road just north of Springfield.  The caller said two men drove an SUV through the front door of the business, loaded up some power tools, and took off.

Officers soon spotted the vehicle and gave chase, but the SUV didn't get far -- it broke down while officers were in pursuit.  However, the suspects still managed to escape on foot.

A K-9 unit was brought in, but was unable to locate the men.  Deputies said the stolen items were found in the SUV.

Anyone with information should call the sheriff's office at 328-2560.
