DAYTON, Ohio -- An apparent robbery attempt left a business owner shot in the face this afternoon.

It happened shortly before noon today, June 15, at the Lexington Meat Market at 801 Lexington Avenue.  Police said the owner, Samara Aid, was shot in the cheek.

Aid was walking around when officers arrived, and was able to provide a description of the suspect.  According to WHIO-TV, his condition has since worsened and Aid was listed in critical condition as of 4 p.m.

Aid said a gunman ran into the store around 11:30 a.m. and shot him in the face without explanation.  Police didn't know whether the man actually escaped with any money or valuables.

The suspect is described as a light- or medium-skinned black male with a very short afro.  He was around 6'2" and of medium build, last seen wearing black Dickies shorts and a white T-shirt.
