DAYTON, Ohio -- A man who tried to rob a Brookville bank last month has gotten off with probation.

Ryan Montgomery, 24, was sentenced today -- he previously pled guilty to a single count of robbery.

Police said Montgomery entered the Fifth Third Bank on Wolf Creek Road on March 30.  Police said he handed the teller a note demanding cash, but apologized and left when the teller began yelling at him.

Montgomery was quickly arrested and he later told police he tried to rob the bank because of the bad economy.  Prosecutors said Montgomery was quick to enter a guilty plea and appeared to show remorse.

As part of his sentence, Montgomery must complete an anti-drug program and is required to stay away from all Fifth Third Banks.
