Ohio Colleges See Enrollment Rise in Face of Struggling Economy
DAYTON, Ohio - Despite a slumping economy, more people are receiving degrees from Ohio's colleges and universities than ever before.
The percentage of Ohio residents ages 25-64 with associate's, bachelor's, and graduate degrees or higher increased from 2006 to 2007, according to Census data. Ohio jumped at least two spots in the national rankings in each of those categories.
Overall enrollment at all Ohio colleges and universities reached 478,376 in the fall of 2008, up 12,520 students from fall of 2007, a 2.7 percent rise. Most of the growth was seen at community colleges and regional campuses.
Locally, Sinclair Community College recorded an all-time high enrollment of 23,259 for fall of 2008.
