DAYTON, Ohio -- The City of Dayton kicking off the holiday season by illuminating 1,200 strands of lights adorning the 42-foot spruce tree in Courthouse Square Friday night.

The 36th annual Grande Illumination celebration also featured -- for the first time at night -- the Dayton Children's Parade.

Clifford The Big Red Dog was this year's Grand Marshal and Santa made an appearance at the end of the parade.

Activities included live musical entertainment, carnival rides and games, holiday crafts and horse-drawn wagon rides.

The Grande Illumination celebration marks the beginning of the month-long Dayton Holiday Festival.
