String Of Arsons Has Residents Scared, Say Police
HAMILTON, Ohio -- Investigators in Hamilton are looking for one or more people suspected to have set a string of fires in a neighborhood known for criminal activity.
Eight fires in an area south-east of downtown Hamilton known for prostitution and drug activity have been ruled arson cases recently, and police believe all but one were probably set by the same person or persons.
One house was the target of arson twice, the second fire destroying the house on Aug. 30. Police say there were three fires in the area on Sunday, Oct. 5, and one of them was set at the garage behind the destroyed house.
Larry Mullins, the man who owned the home, rented out rooms, and his nephew said Mullins was targeted because he called police several times to get rid of criminal activity at the home.
Police say they are having trouble finding anyone to come forward in the cases though, because many residents in the area fear retribution.
The Ohio Blue Ribbon Arson Committee is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the identity of the person or persons responsible for the fires. Anyone who provides information can choose to remain anonymous.
