This has nothing to do with the rationing of health care or health care reform. It's just another distraction from the real issues. The CDC has set up guidelines for the priority groups and the county health departments have to follow them. It's a decision based on statistical models and epidemiological studies. I don't entirely agree with making the group most likely to die from H1N1 (people over 25 with medical problems) wait so long to receive the vaccine while healthy young people under 25 were going first. I have asthma and a heart condition; my adult children are also in the high-risk group. We weren't able to get the vaccine until last week, long after H1N1 hit our community. This "rationing" is due to this novel virus emerging suddenly in the spring (too late to put the H1N1 virus strain in with the other flu strains in the seasonal flu vaccine) and because of production problems of the vaccine. It has NOTHING to do with health care reform! As far as "fairness" - about 70% of those dying from H1N1 have underlying health issues so it IS fair that these people have access to the vaccine before people without health issues, don't you think?
