And then there is the FactCheck.org and Obama's own "FightTheSmears" website's assessment of the "true facts" which point to Barack Obama II having taken dual citizenship. He would be a U.S. citizen from the combined circumstances of both his mother's American citizen status and his birth on U.S. soil in Hawaii. But simultaneously, according to FactCheck, he took on U.K. citizenship from his father due to Kenya being a colony and subject to a 1948 U.K. law governing citizenship of those who bore allegiance to the British Crown.<br> <br> "Natural born citizen" as a provision of Article II seems to have been taken definitionally from Emerich deVattel's 1758 treatise "Law of Nations" by the Framers of the U.S. Constitution. Some argue that it was a borrowing from Blackstone and his commentaries on English common law which addressed "natural born subjects" but that is an argument, with finer points, for a Court to resolve.
