Franklin Company May Close

04/08/2008 06:01:37

FRANKLIN, Ohio -- The Franklin Boxboard Corp. may be closing its door June 2 if the plant's union does not accept a contract offer by April 15, a corporate official said.

The union and the Newark Group, which owns the Franklin plant, have been in negotiations since October, said Carl Crook, Newark's director of human resources.

The Newark Group has notified the state it may permanently lay off its 82 workers at the Franklin plant, located at 50 E. Sixth St., if the offer is not accepted, according to filing for the Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification Act, which requires companies provide 60 calendar days notice of closings.

Crook said no plans have been made for the location past the April 15 date.
