SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- An 18-year-old South Vienna man was killed when he lost control of his car on Ohio 54, ran into a culvert on the right side of the road and then struck a tree last night just before 9:30, according to a report from the Springfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Walter H. Pettit was driving his Chevrolet Lumina north on Ohio 54 near mile marker 7 when he lost control on the wet pavement, the report said. The car went across a private drive and struck a mailbox before the driver's side of the car slammed into the tree.
