The name of author Jerome Corsi probably doesn't mean much to most people, but he was involved in the original Swift Boat attacks four years ago, so his backing for "Obama Nation" had many Democrats ready to return fire.

The Obama camp did that yesterday. releasing a forty page counter attack, going after Corsi on a variety of fronts, and trying to debunk most of his claims in the book.

"Obama Campaign Responds to False, Right-Wing Smear Book with "Unfit for Publication" Report," was the title of the email sent out to reporters, giving the highlights of their anti-Corsi screed.

"Jerome Corsi is a discredited liar who is peddling another piece of garbage in order to continue the Bush-Cheney politics he helped perpetuate four years ago," said Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor.

"Make no mistake: "The Obama Nation" is nothing but rehashed lies," the report begins.

"Once again, bigoted fringe author Jerome Corsi is trying to make money off of an election, spinning garbage as journalism."

Four years ago, there was no such push back, as Kerry let the Swift Boat Attacks go so long that they did more than chip away at his war record - it may have turned the election around.

Ninety one times, the word "lie" or "lies" is used in this report about Corsi's book.

You get the picture.

This is actually one of three anti-Obama books that will be out soon - another one will evidently debut at #5 on the NY Times bestseller list.

Whether it translates into anything more than that in this election year, we'll see if 2004 gets repeated. The Obama people are trying to make sure that does not happen with "The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality."
