"No Hints"

Someone has to know what Barack Obama is going to do. He certainly wasn't offering anything to reporters on Wednesday about his Vice Presidential choice.

"No hints," Mr. Obama said to a reporter prying for information during a stop in Virgina. "No hints."

That was part of New York Times story by Katharine Q. Seelye, who also included this great line, which sent me immediately to the dictionary, describing Obama's visit to a farmer's market in Martinsville, Va.

"The normally abstemious candidate picked up biscuits, zucchini bread, pound cake, bread, tomatoes and peaches, and paid for them all."

There were all sorts of rumors flying around on Wednesday, that Obama would have an event in Indianapolis (Evan Bayh's home state) and that his wife Susan got her hair done and a manicure as well (clearly a BIG signal, maybe.)

"Vice Presidential Speculation Reaches Silly Season," proclaimed the headline on ABCnews.com last night.

Even Matt Drudge had gotten tired of the story by Wednesday evening, and wasn't even featuring it on his web page.

Obama's campaign team even decided to have a bit of fun with the press corps, as chief spokesman Bill Burton sent out a morning missive with the delicious title of "Vice Presidential..." in the subject line.

I opened that as fast as my blackberrying fingers could.

"Just kidding," were the opening words from Burton.

"Obama's Vice Presidential Pick Is Best Kept Secret in Town," read another web headline.

Maybe when I wake up, it will be different.
