Fall Home Improvement Guide and Tips

Tip #1 Remove Garden hoses and A/B Diverter Switches from outside hose bibs (spouts, spigots, faucets) by Mid October or 50 degrees at nighttime temperature. Attach when using and remove after use each time when temperatures are below 50 degrees. If left on and temperatures reaches freezing the hose bib will freeze and split because a hose or A/B diverter will not let the water drain even through the hose bib is antifreeze.

Tip #2 Be sure to close garage doors during the cold season because wind chill and sub-zero weather will freeze waterlines in the attic space or above the ceiling in the garage. Good insulation and pipe wraps will not fully protect a home from the weather if the door is open and the garage is exposed to constant frigid weather. It is also important that the seal around and underneath the door be in good condition.

Tip #3 Be sure to update older sump pump devises. Sump pumps and Battery Backup
Systems can be installed to better manage water issues. This will greatly assist in
protecting an investment and valuable personal belonging. Modern systems have better
warning methods and power outage solutions.

Tip #4 Septic Systems are better to be emptied before weather hits. Systems with effluent
pumps should have warning systems equipped with high water and power outage
indicators. High head pumps need to maintained and fully operational while accessible
during the time the ground is still manageable
